Sailing Clinic to Raise Money for Barnstable High School Sailing Team

The Hyannis Yacht Club is hosting the 9th annual Raise the Sail clinic this weekend to raise money for the Barnstable High School sailing team.

Each year, high school sailors from across New England attend the clinic for the opportunity to receive college level sailing instruction at the start of the competitive sailing season.

The money raised by the clinic helps to defray costs for Barnstable High School’s sailing team. This year, the team hopes the clinic will raise enough money to purchase new sails for the team.

Hyannis Yacht Club Commodore Mark Sexton said the event has benefited the high school sailing program for the past eight years.

“We are very pleased to be able to donate the 420 racing class boats for use to such a worthwhile program again this year. As a lifelong sailor at the Hyannis Yacht club, I can easily say that sailing teaches these young sailors strategic thinking, courage, teamwork, how to stay warm and have fun,” Sexton said.

This weekend, as temperatures remain in the low 40’s, participants will have their work cut out for them staying warm.
