Family Business Summit planned

Bank of Cape Cod, in partnership with Cape & Plymouth Business and the non-profit Family Business Association, will be the presenting sponsor for the Family Business Summit on Thursday, Sept. 19.

The event, focusing on the "fun and foibles of family business," will be held at the Cape Codder Resort and Spa in Hyannis from 7:30-11 .a.m The Family Business Summit is designed to answer the questions owners, managers and employees have about the complexities and process of family business success and succession.

Attendees will participate in a program of education and discussion geared toward helping all involved in a family business operate more effectively and successfully.

"We appreciate the importance of family businesses on Cape, and how essential they are to our economy," said Timothy T. Telman, president and CEO of Bank of Cape Cod. "We are here to help family businesses achieve their financial goals through lending and business banking services. We always want to do whatever we can to assist and be there for all of our business clients, and this summit is particularly important to our family businesses."

Robert Viamari, co-publisher and partner at Cape & Plymouth Business, noted that family businesses can offer many benefits to those involved, but with the good come additional challenges.

The first session will focus on best practices for family business advisors, led by Dr. Cynthia Harrison of Adams Harrison Performance Consulting and Terry Phinney of Blackstone Management Consulting. The second session will address Children in the Family Business -- the View from the Next Generation. The panel moderator is Terry Shepherd of ROCG Shepherd & Goldstein Consulting Group, and will feature next generation panelists Gary Sheehan of Cape Medical Supply, Meredith Baker of Associated Elavator, Matt Cole of Cape Associates, Sarah Whiteley of Whiteley Plumbing & Heating, and Michael Robinson of Rogers and Gray Insurance Agency.
