Amanda Converse, Amy Dufault and Justine Copperath opened “Shift” in 2009 with the vision of offering women clothing, shoes, and jewelry made from organic, eco-friendly and green materials. Three years later, Shift offers just that and more, from collaborative events with other local businesses to trunk shows for Cape Cod artists.
Converse purchases clothing from what she describes as fashion forward eco-designers. “The fabrics that eco-designers are using are innovative—from using recycled polyester to old T.V. screens as fibers – and they are creating unique and wearable clothing,” Converse said.
Running the store over the past three years has at times been challenging for Converse, who had never worked in retail before opening the shop. “Owning your own business is a roller coaster. Sometimes it can be scary, sometimes you want to scream, but most of the time it is the most fun you ever had,” Converse said.
Converse says the past three years have gone by fast. To celebrate the accomplishment Converse is hosting a birthday party at the store tonight, complete with food provided by 586 Bistro, drinks and cake of course.
