Meet Photographer Kat Szmit

Photography by reporter Kat Szmit is being featured this month at Barnstable Town Hall, you can meet Szmit at a closing reception Friday January 18th.

From the Town of Barnstable:

View the works and hear the stories behind the photos by joining photographer Kat Szmit at Barnstable Town Hall, in the Town Hall Hearing Room, on Friday, January 18th from 3 to 5PM.  Kat is this month’s featured artist and some of her photographs are featured on the Hearing Room and Selectmen Room walls in Town Hall through January 18th.  Light refreshments will be served.

Kathleen "Kat" Szmit is a reporter/photographer for The Barnstable Patriot in Hyannis. She got her start in photography as a child living in Southwestern New Hampshire, in a small town along the Connecticut River, where she delighted in drives through the countryside, camera in hand. Favorite subjects then (and now) were old barns, trees of all types, and the cows that roamed the fields of the dairy farms in the region.

A relocation to Cape Cod almost a decade ago provided Kat with an endless array of scenes to photograph, from the beautiful waters around the peninsula, to its myriad walking paths, cozy villages, and so much more.

"Taking photos is more than a hobby; it is a means of feeding the soul," said Kat. "I hope my images delight and inspire, while encouraging all to appreciate the marvelous beauty that is Cape Cod."
