Proposal to Remove Airport Rotary, Widen Roads Costs $52.7 Million

Do you think Hyannis needs to get rid of the airport rotary, widen lanes on Route 28 and Yarmouth Road and add an underpass?

That'll be $52.7 million, the Barnstable Patriot reported.

The estimate was quoted as a result of the Hyannis Access Study Implementation report, which envisioned a ramp connecting the re-worked Route 28 with Route 132 and replaced the rotary with a roundabout.

Replacing the airport rotary--the main feature of the plan--costs $20 million, alone.

The report estimates the construction would take longer than a decade.

“Next steps,” the report concludes, “include refinement of right-of-way acquisition costs, enlistment of support from public officials, and identification of funding sources.”
