Sacred Heart Kingston Begins Construction of $1 Million State-of-the-art Science and Innovation Center

 

Sacred Heart School (www.sacredheartkingston.com), a private, Catholic, co-educational school for students in preschool through grade 12, has begun construction of their new Science and Innovation Center that reflects their commitment to the School’s STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) initiative.

Phase I of the project will be completed over the summer and will be ready for the start of the 2014-2015 school year. It will include a new Biology Lab with afully functioning greenhouse, a new Physical Science lab, as well as a prep room with equipment for sterilization and refrigeration and a common space for faculty.. An expanded Computer Science Lab will offer in-depth computer skills lessons beyond the integration of iPad technology that is used in the classroom on a daily basis. Phase II is scheduled for completion during the school year and will include a new  Earth and Space Sciences Lab that will also be used by the school’s new Astronomy club, a state-of-the-art Physics Lab will round out the renovations.

Ai3 Architects of Wayland MA have created the design of the Center and the Laboratories. Acella Construction of Norwell, MA has been selected as the Construction Manager for the $1 million project.

 

Sacred Heart School has been working with the Science Department at Bridgewater State University to review the STEAM curriculum and create an environment that will allow students to seamlessly move from the Sacred Heart School into a University Science Program.  The Science and Innovation Center will also include the newly renovated Observatory on the school campus for students to study Astronomy.

Everything will be modern and create an environment that fosters discovery, innovation and learning,” said President Pamela Desmarais. “Our affiliation with Bridgewater State University provides our students with the information and education they need to pursue higher learning and careers in these important fields.”
