Centerville Pet Seeks New Home, Mooring Wait List Lottery to Open Monday

A roundup of five things to know in Barnstable for Friday, Aug. 2.

1. Each week, the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) in Centerville features a new Cape Cod pet for adoption on Barnstable-Hyannis Patch. This week's pet? Flower, a one-year-old black-and-white Rex bunny. To learn more about her, click here

2. The Harbormaster's office has announced that it will be adding names to several mooring waiting lists in Barnstable beginning Monday. To see the lists, click here. Those interested must complete an individual town application form for each area. There is a $5 non-refundable lottery application fee per person, per entry. Entries will be accepted beginning on Monday, Aug. 5 at 8:30 a.m. through Friday, Aug. 23 at 4 p.m.  

3. Residents should note that the PMC will pass through Barnstable on Sunday, Aug. 4. Between 5:45 and 7:55 a.m., riders will pass through Service Road in Barnstable through to Meetinghouse Way onto Church Street, down to Parker Road through to Main Street and continue toward County Complex through to the Barnstable water stop, which is located at the Barnstable Courthouse on Main Street. Between 6:10 and 8:10 a.m., riders will pass through Main Street in Barnstable.

4. In case you missed it, West Nile Virus has been detected in Marstons Mills, Barnstable officials announced Thursday. Click here for ways to protect yourself against mosquito bites. 

5. Ready for some football? There will be a new look to the Barnstable High School football team's schedule this upcoming season. Barnstable will be in Division 2 South with powerhouses like Duxbury, Mansfield, Marshfield, Natick, Needham and Wellesley, all competing for the playoff spots.
