Barnstable School Committee to Meet, Oak Street Excavation Begin Wednesday

A roundup of five things to know for Wednesday, Aug. 7.

1. Wednesday Meetings: The Barnstable School Committee is scheduled to meet Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Barnstable Town Hall hearing room. 2. The Barnstable Department of Public Works will begin excavation and grading operations on Oak Street starting Wednesday, weather permitting. One lane of traffic is expected to be open at all times for local residents and emergency vehicles. Drivers are asked to seek alternate routes to avoid the area; only Oak Street residents and side-street neighbors that have no other means of access will be allowed through the area during the project. Delays are expected.

3. The Barnstable Transfer Station, located at 45 Flint St. in Marstons Mills, will take place on Saturday, Aug. 24 from 9 a.m. to noon. The swap shop will be closed during hazardous waste collection.

4. The Barnstable Transfer Station is also now offering non-treated wood chips free to Barnstable residents while the pile lasts. The offer is for residents only, and not meant for commercial vehicles or businesses. The station is open seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

5. The Barnstable Town Clerk’s office, which is located on the first floor of Town Hall, is temporarily closed for renovations, according to the town website. The temporary office is now on the third floor of Barnstable Town Hall. Residents are encouraged to conduct business with the Town Clerk’s office by mail whenever possible.
