The Barnstable Police Department is responsible for 72.6 square miles of land and water with a year-round population of about 50,000 residents. They serve the community with a patrol force, detectives, and special units including K-9, bike, an award winning SWAT team, marine, honor guard, segway, traffic and motorcycle. 

In addition to serving and protecting the public through crime prevention and suppression programs, it also provides public education and community policing programs in the schools.
