The Sandwich Women’s Club is excited to announce that author Irene Paine will speak at its November program meeting regarding life as a nineteenth century Cape Cod wife. The meeting will be held on Monday, November 12 at 7:00 PM at the Bee-Hive Tavern, Rte 6A in East Sandwich.
Irene Paine is a fourteenth generation Cape Codder who grew up hearing stories of her sea-faring family's heritage. After going through college and grad school, raising a family, and working for years as a real estate broker, she sat down to write the story of her great aunt, Eva Paine Smith. Research started in the family attic, and took her to the archives of nineteenth century newspapers and the Cape Cod libraries and historical societies. Although Irene has written many articles, short stories and songs, this is her first full-length novel. Eva and Henry, A Cape Cod Marriage won a Silver Independent Publisher's Award for best regional fiction in 2011, and it continues to be a brisk seller in Cape Cod book stores and on the Internet book sites.
This event is open to the public and free of charge. Current and prospective Sandwich Women’s Club Members are encouraged to attend and bring a friend.
