"SHUTTLING" ALONG

Although this is Father's Day, (Happy Father's Day, guys!) i'd like to tell you about a group of amazing Women! As a new resident to the Cape, I went looking for people who share my love for Weaving. After many referrals and lots of driving, I arrived at my Brothers house, just plain discouraged. I couldn't believe there wasn't a Weavers group/Guild on artistic Cape Cod! I definitely knew there were Weavers here, as I'd met a couple as well as a very famous weaver named Randall Darwall. Well.

So.. I left my brother's house, and stopped at a yard sale, where I saw the woman of the house crocheting! I said to her,"you don't happen to weave, do you?" she said no, but then went in and brought out a beautiful placemat. She said they were done at the West Dennis library! The next day I stopped in and was redirected to the Dennis library, where, every Tuesday morning, a very dedicated group of women, and one Gentleman, weave lovely, practical rag rugs, bags, etc. to support the library. Now, that in itself, wouldn't be unusual, as there are lots of folks who donate their time and skills to doing good works, but in this case the group doing the weaving learned how to do this without knowing what they were doing in the first place!!! Talk about self-taught!  No one in the group knew anything about weaving, which is quite a complicated thing to learn without some sort of a guide, but at it they went, making a lot of trial and error (lots of errors) moves until they got it right!  AND, now, if you go to the library, you'll see wonderful rugs, bags, placemats, and other useful, long wearing items. My hat is off to these incredible people!!
