Provincetown is a land of glimpses--through a lighted window on Commercial Street at night, between two tilting old fish shacks to the water, up a grass alley into someone's tiny, exquisite garden. Sometimes a glimpse into history, sometimes into the life of a passerby. A young woman leaning in her shop doorway, and just from the sway of her back you know she's crazy about the guy she's talking to. A waiter with the grace of a ballet dancer; an old woman who manages a four block constitutional every day even though she needs a walker. I've been trying, in photographs and in words, to share some of my glimpses of Provincetown. I'm better with the words but maybe the photographs will improve.
Today is my daughter's 18th birthday so I've been thinking about all she's seen and learned by growing up here. She has known such love and kindness, from so many disparate souls, and in such fantastical ways. And it seems as if, whatever she has needed, the town has magically been able to provide. Today her ballet teacher had them work on the dance to Cher's Burlesque, because he knows she loves it. It is really not a ballet, and only in Ptown would a dance teacher have it at the tips of his fingers. But there it was, a perfect birthday gift, like a little sprinkle of magic. May a little magic sprinkle into your day too!

I left something wonderful out of this entry-- the two men who found my husband and I bumbling around the Alden Street parking lot, trying to change a tire. Oh we are so incompetent! These guys, off for a Sunday fishing expedition, changed the tire for us as cheerfully as if it was nothing at all-- saving us an hour of blundering and probably being crushed by our own car. Thank you to them -- may they inspire me to be so naturally kind!
