It's not at the hotel (motel) or its pool. It's not at the the rink(s). It's not your favorite restaurant. It's not at the Mall(s). It is not on the Little League baseball field(s), It's not somewhere along the well-beaten path you trudge daily in your appointed rounds. They are doing all that in Podunk, Texas; Yahoo, Oklahoma; See You Later, North Dakota; and Stay Away, Minn.----- The Cape is much, much, more and sadly among those discarded adventures you have sacrificed to meet your daily obligations to family and work. Hey----I don't know times are tough? Don't cry on my shoulder!! I think a famous poet once said: THE WORLD IS TOO MUCH WITH US Look it up (Wordsworth, I Think) it will give pause.
Have you driven along the Shore Road in Falmouth Lately? --stopped and had a picnic there? Have you traveled along Church St., off The King's Highway?(in Yarmouthport). Have you read a book at the Canal and watched the boats glide by?? Have you been to Wellfleet center? Chatham's Shore Road?? Have you 'walked' the back streets of PTown and/or visited the phenomenal museum at the base of the MONUMENT?? Have you been to the dunes at Sandy Neck? Scargo Hill? Have you kyacked and or canoed the Bass River? Have you been up close to a lighthouse? Sesuit Creek? (where 6 of the world's largest clipper ships were built?) Have you yet seen --live and in person-- the famous Cape Cod Rose Covered Cottage as painted by our own Sam Barber?--here in Hyannis?Have you the faintest idea as to how amazing the 'locals' were (Indians and settlers)?Do you have any interest at all in being here amidst the places I mentioned above? Yes? Then make a list and force it--make it happen.
All of us are living on a jewel and I fear many are not aware of that-- the times have stolen much from us. Don't allow your life to be frittered away on essentials (now that's a conversation piece in itself). Enjoy fully that which you came here for in the first place.
I had a New England (New Hampshire) native describe his annual summer trip to The Cape: "We go down in traffic--We go to our hotel---We eat across the street--Swim in the hotel's pool ---Then we go home in traffic." Good Lord!!
You see what we've become to some!!
