What Is Your Fondest Memory of Fenway Park?

Today is the 100th Anniversary of Fenway Park. The Red Sox will play the New York Yankees, the team they played on this day in 1912.

If you live on the Cape and Islands, the oldest ball field in the country is practically in your backyard, after a two hour drive!

Yet, it's worth the time and travel to see the Red Sox play at Fenway Park.

Yesterday, after work, of course, I went to the open house at Fenway Park and toured the stadium with thousands of my friends, walked on the track and took this photo from one of the private suites that was open to the public.

A once in a lifetime opportunity for me!

Share your fondest memory of Fenway Park in the comments section below.

Maybe we will see you on TV at today's game!

Fondest memory was of skipping school on the last game of the season 1978. A group of Silver Lake Lakers went and sat in the bleachers to see the Sox win the last game of the season and thus set up the infamous playoff game with the dreaded Yankees. Eddie Cappa , who had the largest supply of baseball cards I ve ever seen, sprinted down and bought up as many tickets as he could after we all emptied our wallets. Some of us never did get to go to the game due to the fact that we had a high school golf match v. Bridgewater/ Raynham and if we skipped the match we d be tossed off the team. So while some of my high school friends enjoyed the playoff game, the Silver Lake Golf Team and the Bridgewater / Raynham golf team played its scheduled match at Halifax CC with transistor radios blaring as each foursome shouted out updates of the game. Finished the round to see Yaz pop out to 3rd base. That s my most memorable Fenway moment. That and Nun's Day. I was 12 and thought they resembled a flock of penguins.

Hi Gene,

I'd give anything to have seen Nun's Day!

October 2, 1978. A one-game playoff between the Sox and the Yankees, both of whom won 99 games during the regular season. Sox up 2-0. Injured shortstop Bucky Dent to the plate with two men on. He fouls one off his injured right foot and limps for several minutes. Takes the next pitch just over the monster. Sox come back with two more runs, but so do the Yanks, who go on to win (and win the World Series). A great game between two great rivals. http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=3224125

Fonder still -- watching Bobby Valentine repeatedly booed (4/21/12) for his utter incompetence leading an otherwise fine ball club to a humiliating defeat after being up by 8 runs. This clown will go down as one of the biggest mistakes this franchise has ever made.
