Sustainable Braintree and Pie Company Respond to Story About EBT at Farmers Market
Sustainable Braintree and Ever so Humble Pie Co. have responded to the Boston Herald story and the ongoing conversation on Patch.
In a statement, Sustainable Braintree and Ever So Humble Pie Inc. have responded to a Boston Herald article about accepting EBT at the weekly farmers market and what is a continuing conversation on Patch.com:
"Sustainable Braintree respects the opinions of all its vendors. As an organization focused on environmental change, we encourage and applaud other organizations and individuals who express their opinion and take steps to further positive change in their community. In response to requests from the visitors and vendors of the Market, EBT, Credit Card, and Debit card payments were introduced for the markets 2012 year. Our vendors have been asked to join this program although it has not been mandatory.
"Andrea Taber's frustration with the EBT program is directed at the US Department of Agriculture and the organizations that dictate what EBT benefits can and cannot be used for. Sustainable Braintree has no control, nor any opinion, over the EBT program. Andrea Taber, and the Ever So Humble Pie Co has been a welcome vendor at the Market for the past three years and Sustainable Braintree hopes to continue this positive relationship with her and her business. Quotes attributed to Donna Ingemanson have been taken out of context in an unfair manner. Neither Donna Ingemanson nor Sustainable Braintree take any position regarding the EBT program but rather will continue to seek ways to grow the Market and respond to the needs and requests of its visitors and vendors.

I have a strong objection to some of the rules regatding EBTCard orSNAP benifit restrictions. They Don't consider any vitamins, protein powders or supplements ad food, (things which I absolutely need in my diet to maintain my health) However they will let you buy cookies junk food and other things that ruin your health! I receive these benefits because I have health challanges and need to stay healthy on a limited budget (unable to work a regular job.

so how much sense does that make. Iyd the problems the FDA and pharmaceutical companies have with people staying well or improving their lives without them that causes this discriminatoty practice.

And AMEN to this lady that refuses to sell pies to the ebt users! U know darn good and well they dont need the pies! Im sure these pies are more costly & knowing all the abusers of this they probably turn around abd sell them to soneone else! U can bet they are scamming somehow. And they shouldnt be allowed anything but basics, cheese, milk, bread, rice , beans and fruit! Bet theyd figure out a way to work! In case society hasnt noticed , people are getting fed up with lazziness !! Theres no way this many people need assistance for this long. Ive been a generous person because ive been very blessed but im sick of giving !! I know alot of us are Sick of abusers of system

oh my god it must be a scam really that justifies this owners actions. Maybe the lady just wanted a wholesome pie to give to her children after dinner. I have been on assistance off and on for the last twelve years and thats working two jobs to feed my children its not always lazziness but thats easier to grasp than accepting the fact that some people just cant make it without even the hard working ones get off your high horse people like you make me sick. I am one who does limit our food purchases to the basics but somtimes the kids deserve ice cream or pie for dessert. I have been giving for my whole life and I still struggle to feed my children keep a nice home for us pay my childsupport and provide for the children in my home.

guaranteed it would break your heart to tell my daughter she cant have some ice cream or a pie because all we can have is bread and water just the necessities to survive. It breaks my heart to tell my kids they cant eat somthing because we have to make it last till pay day or the 1st when we get our food stamps. Guess what it still is not enough we still go days where all we eat are sandwiches or eat one meal becuase we have to save the food for tommorow so we can have somthing to eat everyday.

I think everyone should bake their own pies and put this disgusting woman out of business. Smug, self-righteous people make me sick and this woman has a lot to learn about life. How dare she pass judgement on people who are already down on their luck and whose children might long for a pie now and then? I wouldn't touch one of this woman's e.coli and excrament-filled filled "pies," and I hope you don't either. She's nothing but a cold hearted, mean spirited third rate piece of crap. maker.

This women Mrs Taber, called A politician who then called the Herald that is how This started ,A win win for both of them. Then on A talk show she stated her pies had not butter they were vegan,so they are healthy.then they were talking about nail salons, what does that have to do with her pies cookies .all I can think about is A mother with a small child wanting A cookie and not being able to have it if the mom recieves food stamps, or an older couple I saw both using canes and they can,t have A goodie .Mrs Taber should rename her pie company to URIAH HEEPS INCO ,as thats how humble she is .
