Town Hall Exhibits Work of Local Artists

As part of the town of Barnstable's "Art on Loan" program, works by local artists will be on display through June.

The "Art on Loan" program displays the work of local artists on the meeting room walls in Barnstable Town Hall and features  new artists through the month of June.

Currently in the Town Hall Hearing Room, the works of several artists from Studio 35 are on display.  Studio 35 is a creative mental health recovery program offered through Fellowship Health Resources, a mental health vendor with many residences located here on Cape Cod and the Islands as well as in seven other states.

Through their “Healing Through Arts” program, Studio 35 encourages its members to express themselves in creative ways that ultimately help them to develop self-esteem and confidence, becoming much more than their illness -they become artists!  Studio 35 is always looking for opportunities to participate in the community through the arts, helping members become more connected to their community. Mary Munsell of Hyannis collaborates with Studio 35 and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Cape Cod and she can be reached at mary.munsell05@gmail.com.

Works by artist and Osterville resident, Susan Reynolds, are on display in the Selectmen's Conference Room.  Susan is the former owner of the Carriage Trade Dress Shop on Pearl Street in Hyannis (now home to the Sturgis Charter Public High School).  Susan was forced to sell her shop due to a serious illness (brain tumor) but after a successful recovery, she reignited her interest in art from when she was a young child. Over the last few years, she participated in drawing classes taught by artist Sarah Holl and began painting as a form of therapy and enjoyment.  Her work is colorful and strong.

"I have a large garden at home and love to paint flowers taken from my own garden as well as other natural subjects," Reynolds said.

The Artwork on Loan program is another venue for local artists to display their work.  Visitors who use the meeting rooms will discover an inviting and attractive environment and will have an opportunity to learn about some of the Cape’s local artists.
