This Friday: Social Learning About Sustainable Living

Celebrate the International Year of Chemistry with Cape Cod Science Cafe on Friday.

If you have always wanted to learn more about renewable energy and sustainable living, mark your calendar for Friday at 6:30 p.m.

There is a Cape Cod Science Cafe event at Hyannis Golf Club.

On Cape Cod, living in a way that protects our delicate ecosystem has never been more important. What's more, this year the United Nations dedicated 2011 to The International Year of Chemistry. As a place that struggles with the chemistry of its waters, this year is a great opportunity to learn more about how alternative energy and sustainable living plays into Cape Codder's lives.

"Barnstable residents and American Chemical Society (ACS) members Dr. Jack Driscoll and his daughter Jennifer Maclachlan have coordinated with the ACS local section to bring four scientific events to Cape Codders throughout the year using the quarterly themes of IYC for each Cape Cod Science Café: Environment, Energy, Recycling, Health," a press release stated.

On Friday, they will discuss energy. The event will feature a pretty big name speaker, Dr. Dan Nocera of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Nocera is an expert in the field of the chemistry of renewable energy.
