Poll: Most Important U.S. Senate Race Issue?
Democratic frontrunner Elizabeth Warren is expected to challenge Republican U.S. Senator Scott Brown.
In a little more than two weeks Massachusetts voters will vote in the March 6 Super Tuesday primary, and, while much focus is deservedly upon the upcoming presidential race, we decided to take a look ahead to the Sept. 6 Democratic senate primary.
Democrats will have three choices for someone to challenge Republican Senator Scott Brown: frontrunner and Harvard professor Elizabeth Warren, immigration lawyer Marisa DeFranco, and corporate lawyer James Coyne King.
Each of the candidates list what they believe are the most important issues in this race on their campaign websites: Scott Brown on the issues; Elizabeth Warren on the issues; Marisa DeFranco on the issues; James Coyne King on the issues. But we want to know what you think is the most important issue.
Please share your ideas by taking this poll and by commenting in the comment section below.

I want a candidate who is more interested in thinking about and then solving problems than scoring popularity points. No one knows what the future holds. We need leadership with the intelligence to confront whatever comes. For me, that means Elizabeth Warren is the most suitable to be US Senator.

Make Wall Street and the banks accountable. Making the 1% pay their FAIR share of taxes.

Jill, the US has the highest corporate tax rate in the world. The 1 % pay more than their fair share... 1st, they pay 35 % on income tax ( additional state and local taxes. )..next, if they have anything left over and risk it by investing and they make a profit, they pay ANOTHER 15% in capital gains....THEN when they die, they pay FROM THE GRAVE, another 55 % in DEATH TAXES...And you don t think they pay enough ????? Jill, Have you NO HEART ? As the Annoy Falmouth moan and groan about the 1 %, Who the Heck do you think donate the funds for new wings at Hospitals, Community Colleges and Museums ???? It is those awful , greedy 1 % ..... And how does the 99 % repay these generous souls ? By waging class warfare and ENVY..... Well BOOOOOOO On YOUUUUU...... Thank GOD for the 1 %

Mr. Kelly's rant is typical of the 1%. He would LOVE us to believe the poor rich folk are unfairly maligned. If any true blue blooded Hinghamite actually pays 35% then they certainly not a true blue 1%er. What's your EFECTIVE tax rate? Closer to 20% I'd bet> Those truly wealthy among us live off of dividends anyway so all they pay IS 15%. Death tax? Really? For 2011 and 2012 it's only 35% with a 5 Million exclusion, you poor babies. Unlike YOU heartless bastards, Jill has a heart, and fortunately there are many more of us. And thank you so much for your generous tax write offs, oh sorry donations. Yea it's about the tax write of and getting your name on that plaque to show us po fok how wonderful you all are. There are exceptions, Gates, Buffet AND the anonymous donors who give for the sake of giving not for the sake of discussion at the club.

In reply to Glenn Kelly,
Actually Japan has the highest corporate tax rate at 40%. After deductions, domestic corporations pay 37% and MNC's(multinational corporations) pay 38%. The united States is No. 2 at 35%. However after deductions, most domestic corporations pay 23% and MNC's pay 28%. Some pay even less. In 2010, 37 corporations paid no taxes. Verizon had a profit of 12 billion in 2010. At the rate of 35%, they should of had a tax bill of 4.2 billion, right? WRONG! After deductions, they had a NEGATIVE tax liability of 703 million! It gets even better with General Electric 10.5 billion in profit and a 4.7 BILLION negative tax liability. The important thing to remember is it's the EFFECTIVE TAX RATE that counts. Still feel bad for the 1% Glenn?

In fact it is truly impossible to tell who's paying more in taxes. The tax codes, breaks and incentives make any kind of one-to-one comparison the subject of a doctoral thesis. One of the problems this country faces is our inability to act on a complex world. We want to believe everything has a simple answer, when it just isnt' so. In theory the US has a high corporate tax rate, but to factor in all the exceptions, exemptions adjustments and perquisites and subsidies creates a different but unclear picture. One thing is very clear: industrialized nations with low corporate tax rates boast personal sales tax rates above 15% -- in MA it's 6.25%, but there are a lot of exemptions. Every nation has to figure out how to pay for what's important, whether it be human resources or physical infrastructure (highways, pipelines, ports and airports etc). What IS fair? As these posts show, we are at a point where everyone in this country thinks themselves are paying too much and others are getting an unfair break. Will any one out there vote for a long-term, reasoned and patient conversation on this very difficult topic? That's what I will look for an every candidate for every office; but hold out little hope.

Jill,
You personify what is so bad in America. You punish achievement and you suffer from envy. The Dems created this entire mess. It started with LBJ and today you reap the benefits of a welfare state run amok. OK, let s do it your way...tax the hell out of all the companies... Then watch for the breadlines. I applaud the 1 % and although I am nowhere near them... I aspire to do better. Greed and envy aint good box office Jill....... Rewarding achievement is !

I guess when confronted with facts and reality, those that do not agree (or refuse to see) attack the messenger. It's not about greed and envy - it's about leveling the playing field.

We need a new threat or war. We're pretty good at killing people and making machines and things that kill. The other things we're good at are, not understanding tax law, playing video games, getting fat off cheap, unhealthy food, requiring lots of healthcare due to poor health habits, and using government services while complaining about how there are so many people mooching off the system. Take a look around, you wanted it free and cheap? you got it. We voted for this stuff.

Under the Obama Administration the national debt is at an all time and frightning high. Elizabeth Warren would be a co conspirator if either were elected/ or reelected. Now is the time to change course.

Hear, hear! Even by Massachusetts' modest standards, Warren represents a frighteningly radical school of thought (literally and figuratively). She takes full credit for the Occupy movement. Can you imagine what she'd claim and invent during her lucid periods? Furthermore, like Barark and his boys, Warren is a divisive individual when this country is in desperate need for someone who can bring us together and stop the absurd in-fighting. Scott Brown is far from perfect but he has abundantly demonstrated that empty phrase of being bi-partisan. His head and heart are in the right place. Ms Warren's are MIA.

You 2 are delusional! Selective memory, remember the Bush years, hunh? That's how we got here, coming back to ya? The time to change course was 10 years ago, where were you? Probably putting together a nice bag of credit defaults to pawn off on someone. Mr Brown's head and a** are clearly in the hands of big money. Need proof? Not hard to follow the money. You Regressives, Baggers, empty suits and Mitt wanna be's fear Warren and what she represents. She certainly isn't going to help you money bags and you don't need it. Get on your yachts and just go away and take your money, oh yea it's all off shore anyway. We won't miss you big tippers. Thanks for the trickle down.

Elizabeth Warren is exceedingly knowledgeable, tenacious, and focused. She is unaffected by ideological pressures and fully supportive of a healthy business environment with robust job creation -- and she will be accountable to all Americans. She is not owing to anyone. She is not in the pockets of any corporation and has no other agenda other than the pragmatic health of this nation. She is exactly who you would want as a representative! Those who wish to subvert the system to their own advantage will fight her like the devil (and they will). I implore every voter to make a special effort to really listen to these two candidates (Warren and Brown) and to think independently in the voting booth. There is a lot of outside money that wants otherwise.

Do you know that's what she means? As a small-time contractor for many years, I have repeatedly witnessed the ability of the very wealthy to manipulate the local zoning boards, selectman, and even courts to get what they want. No they don't always get their way, but time after time they just wear down the system. Meanwhile the working-class homeowner simply doesn't have the ability to fight and bend regulations to get their own way. Kudos to the successful entrepenour who works hard and makes a fortune. But the wealthy do get preferential treatment, even while they pay my bills. It's not necessarily about redistribution, rather equal opportunities to live a decent life.

I usually go to the source and ask them what they really mean if I am not sure. I too, work hard, make sacrifices, volunteer in my community, pay my taxes. I am a small business owner who was able (through hard work) to hire one person last year, and am hoping to hire two people this year. In my own small way I am am trying to help the economy.

I agree. Just a thought. Why is it such a bad thing that everyone in the country have access to affordable health care? Isn't a healthy workforce a more productive workforce? The federal employees have health care(72-75% of which is paid for by taxpayers), including all of our elected officials. Why is it ok for their healthcare to be paid by tax dollars and not ok for everyone else?
