Memorial Day Parade

When: Monday, May 28 - The parade will form at the library at 9:30am and kick-off sharply at 10am

Where: The traditional parade takes place as in years past down Main Street in Centerville from the Centerville Library, up Old Stage Road to Beechwood Cemetery.  

Cost: Free

Why: In keeping with hometown parades across the country, Barnstable's parade includes school bands, politicians, marching Boy and Girl Scouts, honor guards, musket salutes and much more.  The parade will proceed to Monument Square for brief ceremonies and then move on to Beechwood Cemetery for the Memorial Day Program which includes observances and Keynote Speaker Sidney L. Chase, former Director, Barnstable District Veterans’ Services.  

JFK Memorial

When: Monday, May 28 at 12:15 pm

Where: John F. Kennedy Memorial on Ocean Street at Veterans Beach

Cost: Free 

Why: The Ceremony will be assisted by a group of Cub Scouts from Pack 54, the Barnstable Girl Scouts, the Barnstable Police Department Honor Guard and other special guests.  It is at this ceremony that the 2012 JFK Scholarship will be awarded to this year’s recipient, a 2012 Barnstable High School Graduate.  This year’s scholarship winner of $2,000 is Jasmine Peck Opie of Cotuit.  

Cape Cod Winery Wine Tasting

When: Sunday, May 27, 2012, 11:00 am

Where: 681 Sandwich Rd, East Falmouth

Cost: $5

Why: Sample six wines grown on Cape Cod and massachusetts made cheese. The cost is $5 and includes a wine glass to take home. Stoll through our 10 acre vineyard and enjoy!

19th Annual Cape Cod Maritime Days

When: All Weekend

Where: Cape Cod Maritime Museum on the Hyannis Waterfront

Cost: Free, costs vary

Why: The annual Cape-wide celebration features nearly 60 events and activities throughout the month, including lighthouse tours, nautical art exhibits, lectures on maritime lore, boat-building, guided kayak excursions and the 8th Annual Highland Light Ocean to the Bay Run/Walk on May 26th, and more.  

Catch the Wind: Kiteboarding & Windsurfing on Cape Cod

When: Opens on Tuesday, May 22 and runs thru Sunday, September 23rd

Where: Cape Cod Maritime Museum on the Hyannis Waterfront

Cost: Free

Why: Catch the Wind Exhibit narrates part of the ever-evolving story of Cape Cod’s maritime recreation sports, through inspiring photographs and historic & contemporary artifacts including boards & sails. The exhibit will also show evidence of the early beginnings of wind surfing on Cape Cod, and the fast-growing world of kite boarding in the new millennium.

Gail at the Paddock

When: Saturday, May 26 at 7pm

Where: The Paddock Restaurant 

Cost: A drink

Why: Gail keeps saying this is the place to be. Piano bar and live music on a holiday weekend - can't go wrong.

Old School Reunion 5

When: Friday, May 25 at 10pm

Where: Fresh Ketch

Cost: $10

Why: Reunite with old faces from Cape and night life from years gone by...remembering night clubs like Tingles in the 70s to Guidos in the 80's and Sophie's in the 90's...and who could forget The Mill Hill in all it's glory? With not one, not two but three DJs spinning the BEST music from the late 70's to early 90's.... The music team of Anakus, DJ Hi Yella and Scotty Nevers is 100% guaranteed to rock the party all night.
