Drug Lab Fallout Continues, Three Cape Defendants Released

Potentially tainted drug samples lead to three Cape men being released from prison Thursday.

Judge Robert C. Rufo stayed sentences for Eric Danforth, Ramon Figueroa and Peter Lopes, according to the Cape Cod Times. All three cases were tried with drug samples that were potentially tampered with by a former state chemist Annie Dookhan. 34-year-old Dookhan was charged last week with tampering with evidence and pretending to have a master’s degree.

Kurt Kaski, another defendant, had a conviction overturned Thursday due to mishandled evidence as well, but remains in prison on a separate charge.

The state crime lab in Jamaica Plain closed in late August.
