Detectives Arrest Two in Hyannis Drug Raid

Barnstable detectives arrested two people yesterday at a Hyannis motel. According to police, this was not the pair's first encounter with law enforcement.

After a month-long investigation, Barnstable police narcotics detectives arrested Melvin Miller, age 54, and Susan Pitcher, age 41, yesterday morning.

According to Barnstable police, Miller and Pitcher had been using several Hyannis motel rooms to distribute illegal narcotics.

Throughout the last month, undercover detectives performed surveillance of Miller and Pitcher and had seen the pair travel to Brockton on March 31 to re-supply with drugs.

Barnstable undercover detectives also purchased cocaine from the two.  Barnstable detective Tom Chevalier served as the investigating officer.

At  10AM yesterday, detectives arrived at Miller's and Pitcher’s motel room to serve a search warrant.  Both Miller and Pitcher were leaving their room as detectives arrived at the motel.  Upon seeing the detectives, Pitcher allegedly ran back into the room, and unsuccessfully tried to flush 20 plastic bags of heroine and crack cocaine down the toilet.

Detectives seized $2,000 worth of drugs, $2,500 cash and Miller’s Mercedes Benz.

Yesterday was not the first time Miller and Pitcher have had run-ins with police.  Both men have extensive criminal records totaling, between the two, approximately 150 criminal arraignments dating back to 1980, according to a Barnstable Police Department press release.

Miller and Pitcher have been charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of heroin with intent to distribute and conspiracy to violate the Controlled Substance Act.

Jen I would love to know what motel. With all the bad wraps some get. It would be interesting if it was not one with a bad Rep.

150 prior arraignments???? The justice system in MA is totally out of whack-take it from a recent victim who knows first hand. MA laws make it impossible to secure convictions.
