Q: What did you dream of being as a kid?

I wanted to run my own hotel. Shortly after finishing my degree in Hotel/Restaurant Management I left that industry when I lost my enthusiasm for it.

Q: How does your personality play into this business?

I grew up always having cats and having the class guinea pig during school vacations and summer breaks during grade school, feeding wild birds. I enjoy working with people that have that strong bond with animals.

Q: Describe the biggest challenge of managing a business in the town of Barnstable?

Rules and regulations keep me on my toes.

Q: Describe the best thing about managing a business in the town of Barnstable?

Barnstable is a large town on the Cape but still has that small town charm with regular local customers and visitors from around the world.

Q: What is one thing you would never change about this business?

Familiarity is the key after nearly 60 years and we try to preserve what makes people comfortable coming back year after year.

Q: What is the business’ greatest asset?

We’ve got a great selection of products, great customers and staff but, Misty our store cat who turned 19 on July 6th makes us who we are.  She’s usually up front by the register to greet people if she’s not napping.

Q: What is your favorite spot in town?

Barnstable has so many great spots from Marylou’s coffee on Route 132 for a coffee on the go or The Daily Paper for a full service breakfast to Sandy Neck or Craigville Beach for the ocean view to The 99 Restaurant in Centerville for lunch or dinner, all of which due a great job catering to both locals and visitors.

Q: What’s one thing the community should know about you?

I love traveling around the country and abroad. Although I’ve lived in many places, it’s the pleasure I take in returning home to the Cape that says a lot about me.
