We are in Need of Volunteers to Train Now to Fill in Many Open Slots Starting In January--Many Volunteers Leave for Part of the Winter and We Will Have Open Volunteer Spots That Need To Be Filled!

During the school year, the Supporting Our Youth Task Force of the Greater Hyannis Civic Association provides Homework Help at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center, United Cultures Resource Room. Important Information: 

Dates: Through the End of May 

Days: Monday-Thursday 

Times: 2:45-4:15pm or 4:00-5:45pm 

Grades: 4-12 

We serve up to ten students at a time, with some students coming every day and others dropping in as space provides.  

Volunteers can help with: 

*Subject area homework--math, science, English, social studies 
*Elective homework--art, music, drama, vocational studies 
*Projects for classes 
*Literacy tutoring 
*Math tutoring 
*Studying for tests 
*Writing and Study Skills

We are asking volunteers to commit to a minimum of two days per month (either 2:45-4:15pm or 4:00-5:45pm) through May. (If you are vacationing for part of that time, we can accommodate this.)

If you have an area of specialty (bilingual language skills, high school math, special education, reading, etc.), let us know and we will mark it down. Each volunteer will need a CORI check performed through the Hyannis Youth and Community Center. We will provide these at the trainings. We welcome high schoolers, seniors and anyone in between!
 
Required Training: Volunteers will be required to attend a training offered for the Homework Help and Mentoring Programs.

At these trainings, volunteers will receive an overview of the program, his/her role as a volunteer, suggestions and instruction on how to effectively use the Homework Help time. Training Sessions will be provided on an as-needed basis.
