MSPCA-Angell Lowers Adoption Fee for Adult Cats

Organization Kicks Off Month-Long Adoptathon to find Purrrfect Families for Hundreds of Felines

The MSPCA-Angell  today announced that all four of its Animal Care and Adoption Centers will participate in a month-long adoptathon to find permanent homes for adult cats.  The campaign, dubbed SPF75 (www.mspca.org/spf75) in a nod to summertime, reduces the MSPCA-Angell’s standard adult cat adoption fee from $150 to $75 throughout the month of June.  The organization’s Adoption Centers will host extended hours Saturday, June 4 to ensure its efforts to find perfect homes for adult cats are successful.

The MSPCA-Angell’s SPF75 program shines a spotlight on the large numbers of adult cats that flood the centers each spring.  Despite the many benefits of adopting adult cats—whose personalities and routines are already established and who tend to settle quickly into their new homes—finding homes for them during the spring kitten season can be very difficult.  With this campaign adopters will have an opportunity to have their family photo taken, with their newly adopted cat outfitted in summertime gear, and added to MSPCA-Angell’s SPF75 Facebook gallery.  The organization has set an ambitious goal of 500 new family photos taken during the month of June.

“The MSPCA-Angell cares for thousands of homeless cats every year, many arriving at our adoption centers during the warmer spring and summer months,” said Jean Weber, Director of Animal Protection, MSPCA-Angell.  “Many older felines remain in our care long after the kittens have found homes.  Adult cats make wonderful companions because they have settled into their personality, which allows adopters to select a cat whose disposition fits their family best.”

The SPF75 campaign is funded by the MSPCA-Angell’s Ivan Smith Adoption Challenge (www.mspca.org/ivansmith), named after the late Ivan Smith, whose family has generously donated half of the standard donation fee to ensure new homes can be found for cats during these tough economic conditions.

The MSPCA-Angell’s donation fee will continue to provide all of its standard cat adoption services for felines adopted through the SPF75 campaign: spay/neuter surgery; veterinary exam;  FVRCP vaccinations; Feline Leukemia (FELV) and FIV testing;  de-worming;  flea and tick preventive and Home-Again microchip identification and registration.  The reduced adoption fee is available at all of the MSPCA-Angell’s four adoption centers in Boston, Centerville, Methuen and Nantucket.
