Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

The Cape Cod Museum of Art will host its second Cape Art Blooms weekend June 1 – 3; Friday and Saturday, 10 AM – 5 PM, Sunday, noon – 5 pm.  Inspired by the famous Art in Bloom event held annually at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the event brings together the region’s top floral designers to interpret selected works from the museum’s The Tides of Provincetown exhibition. Several garden clubs from Barnstable are participating (the full list is below).

Art will bloom in each of the museum’s galleries, with 20 floral designers creating beautiful displays, each an interpretation of a piece of work in The Tides of Provincetown exhibition.  Considered the museum’s   premier summer show, scheduled May 19 – August 26, it includes the work of Provincetown’s most celebrated and influential artists over the past 100 years and is expected to draw thousands of guests from both on and off-Cape.

The weekend will launch with the Cape Art Blooms After Dark Preview Party, Thursday, May 31, 6 – 9 pm.  The elegant evening, with cocktails (including the return of the event’s signature cocktail The Bloomie), hors d’oeuvres, and live music performed by The Mooncussers, is an opportunity to preview the beautiful floral interpretations. Tickets are $50; reservations are required by May 23.  Tickets are available by calling 508-385-4477 ext. 7 or online at www.ccmoa.org.

Each day during the weekend, expert horticulturists and floral designers will offer special presentations.  Friday, June 1 at 11 AM, Barbara Pierson of White Flower Farms presents Impressive Entryways; Saturday, June 2 at 10 AM, Cape Cod Field Manager for Parterre Garden Services, Jeanie Gillis presents High on Hydrangeas and that afternoon at 2 PM, floral designer Whitney Perry of Brick Kiln Farm Horticultural Services will present Integrating Tropicals into Your Container Gardens.  On Sunday, June 3 at 2 PM, floral designer Linda Ladd, past chair of Art in Bloom at the MFA Boston, will present Flowers, Etc.  Admission to each presentation is $10, payable at the door.

Adding a festive touch to the weekend will be a tent in the Yasuna Denny Sculpture Garden with seating for guests to relax and enjoy a light lunch. Boxed lunches (a choice of roast beef, turkey, ham and cheese, or veggie wrap with chips, a home-baked cookie and choice of bottled water, coffee or tea) will be available for $15. To pre-order a lunch, call 508-385-4477 ext. 7.

“Great floral interpretations of great art works provide a wonderful way of seeing the art by encouraging the viewer to identify the elements which the designer chose for the floral interpretation,” said Elizabeth Ives Hunter, Executive Director of The Cape Cod Museum of Art. “Once you look at a painting with that sort of analytical eye, you can't stop and it makes the whole museum experience much more meaningful.”

Admission to Cape Art Blooms is included with the museum’s $8 admission fee and free to CCMA members with a current membership card. For more information, go to http://ccmoa.org/CapeArtBlooms.asp or call 508-385-4477 ext. 20. Cape Cod Museum of Art, the regional art museum of Cape Cod, the Islands and Southeastern Massachusetts, is located off Route 6A, 60 Hope Lane, on the grounds of Cape Cod Center for the Arts, Dennis.
